The forest area being under two per cent of the
total District area was quite insignificant. The forest area is over seven thousand
Hectares. The development of the forest was conceived when afforestation program in the
ravines was undertaken to check the problem of soil erosion.
The economic importance of the local forests is limited to fuel
only.
