As per 1991 Census, the district is having 39.06% literacy. 53% of the male population is literate and female literacy is 22% male literacy is apparently higher in the urban area. 62%  of the urban male populations is literate &  36.42% urban females are literate.1213 Primary Schools, 341 Middle Schools, 47 High Schools, 28 Higher Secondary Schools are run by Government in the district. It is supplemented by private Sector which run 401 Primary Schools, 468 Middle Schools.

The  district is taken over under a Special Education Project named as D.P.E.P. (District Primary Education Programme). 145 new Primary Schools have been started in accessible areas under this scheme. Buildings have also been constructed for the schools. The training is imparted to the  teachers for quality education.  Drinking  water/toilets arrangements are provided in primary schools.

The primary education is further supported by State Government Education Guarantee Scheme. 201 such schools are opened in the district where at a distance of 1 km primary education facilities are not available.

PADHANA BADHANA ANDOLAN

Padhana Badhana Andolan' has given a thrust to attract 15/45 segment Population for being letterset. 6481 no. of Padhna Badhna Committees are functional in Bhind District. 1,25,072 learners have been registered by these committes. Out of the registered learners 87379 learner have completed Primer-I and are now students of Primer-II.
